Get to Know Pacifica – Greg Wong

This week in Pacifica’s “Get to Know” series we are highlighting Greg Wong. Greg is a partner and an experienced litigator and appellate attorney.

Constitutional Law and Education Attorney Greg WongWHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR CURRENT PRACTICE AREA(S)?

I worked in public education and nonprofits for several years prior to becoming an attorney. I chose my practice as I saw it as a natural extension of my prior direct service work, allowing me to represent clients, litigate issues, and create policies that positively impact our community.

I enjoy helping clients work through important and complex issues. It could be advising them on a thorny issue. Or determining how best to transform a policy goal into an enacted law. Often, it involves litigating a case that requires deep knowledge, sensitivity, and novel legal issues. That I get to do this work with the incredibly smart and wonderful attorneys at Pacifica makes my practice both fulfilling and fun.

WHAT KINDS OF VOLUNTEER, PHILANTHROPIC, OR COMMUNITY EVENTS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU?

There are many wonderful ways I like to be involved in our community—whether it is volunteering to provide direct service to others or serving on a nonprofit board. But one of the most satisfying is relatively quick and easily accessible: donating blood. I have been a regular donor of whole blood and platelets for years. The importance of it didn’t hit home, however, until my mom required transfusions during her cancer treatment. While I theoretically knew that my donations could help save a life, seeing my mom benefit from the generosity of others showed me how incredibly impactful donating can be for the recipient and their family. It amazes me that almost everyone has the ability to give this gift of life to others. And it comes at no cost other than an hour or two of time. It seems there are frequent shortages of blood, so I hope people please consider scheduling to donate with BloodWorks NW. https://www.bloodworksnw.org/

WHAT HOBBIES AND ACTIVITIES DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I always am looking for new ways to build skills. I will take on almost any car or home repair project, just so I can learn a new skill and have the satisfaction of a job well done (hopefully). I enjoy sports and physical activity of all kinds. I play team sports like basketball and volleyball, will always join in ping pong or badminton, and create personal goals such as beating my best middle school mile time on the track or climbing Mt. Rainier.

WHAT IS SOMETHING OTHERS MIGHT FIND SURPRISING ABOUT YOU?

I’m grew up on old school rap and never turn down the opportunity to tear up a dance floor.
