Pacifica Stands With 500 Law Firms and Legal Depts. as Amici In Support of Perkins Coie
Pacifica Law Group joined more than 500 law firms to defend the rule of law and support Perkins Coie’s litigation against President Trump’s Executive Order targeting the firm for its work.
Pacifica signed onto an amicus brief that argues that the President’s executive orders targeting Perkins Coie and other law firms threaten our adversarial system of justice, in particular the ability of lawyers to represent clients who challenge the government.
As the brief states, “In order for our system of justice to operate, members of the bar must be free to advocate zealously for all their clients, large and small, rich and poor, without fear of retribution. They must be free, in the words of Chief Justice Marshall, to defend ‘the right of every individual to claim the protection of the laws.’ Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. 137, 163 (1803). Without such zealous advocacy, there is no prospect of equal justice under law.”
Nathan P. Eimer of Eimer Stahl LLP in Chicago, and Donald B. Verrilli, Jr. of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in Washington, D.C., are representing the amici curiae.
