Pacifica Partner Nick Brown Elected Attorney General of Washington
During his career with Pacifica, Brown worked for government and nonprofit clients on some of the issues that he prioritized in outlining his vision for the Attorney General’s Office.
Voters in Washington State have elected Pacifica Law Group attorney Nick Brown the 19th Attorney General of Washington. A partner in Pacifica’s Litigation Practice Group, Brown built his career through a combination of public service and private practice. At Pacifica, Brown has represented clients—including the State of Washington and its cities and counties—with complex civil and regulatory litigation, public policy, municipal law, and legislative matters.
“We are excited that Washington voters recognize what we see in Nick every day,” said Pacifica Managing Partner Denise Stiffarm. “He is a talented attorney, committed leader, and dedicated public servant. We know he will be a passionate, principled advocate for justice and the rights of all Washingtonians. We thank Nick for his service to Pacifica and our clients, and wish him well as he represents the people and the State of Washington.”
Brown first joined Pacifica in 2017 after serving as General Counsel to Governor of Washington Jay Inslee, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, and as a lawyer in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He left the firm in 2021 after accepting President Biden’s appointment to become United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington. After two years as a U.S. attorney, Brown rejoined Pacifica’s partnership last year and announced his candidacy for Attorney General of Washington.
In making his case to Washington voters during his campaign, Brown emphasized his broad legal experience in both public service and private practice and how that experience equips him well to serve Washington as its chief legal officer. During his career with Pacifica, Brown worked for government and nonprofit clients on some of the issues that he prioritized in outlining his vision for the Attorney General’s Office, including gun safety. Brown helped write Initiative 1639, which raised the legal age to purchase assault rifles in Washington and introduced enhanced background checks for semi-automatic assault rifles, and he has helped defend that law from gun lobby challenges.
As Attorney General of Washington, Brown will continue a legacy he helped establish of Pacifica attorneys entering public service. Kymberly Evanson currently serves as a judge in the U.S. Federal District Court for the Western District of Washington, and Taki Flevaris serves as a King County Superior Court judge. Greg Wong is Seattle’s Deputy Mayor of External Relations, and current partner Matthew J. Segal previously served as a King County Superior Court judge.
